Dreaming of the Ultimate NYC Dog Spa
63
Working within the pet industry in Manhattan, I have come across a number of rather novel items within the world of dogs. From vintage doggie jewelry to poodles groomed to look like Ninja Turtles, it seems like every possible fantasy for dog lovers in the Big Apple has somehow been fulfilled. Something I have not seen though (despite the many business’ names that would have you believe otherwise) is an honest-to-goodness dog spa worthy of our city’s beloved pooches and the moniker “NYC dog spa”.
Many dog businesses, from boutiques to groomers, have the word “spa” in their name, yet no business currently exists with the sole purpose (as a dog spa should) of making its doggie patrons healthy, comfortable and relaxed. Don’t get me wrong, many establishments have come close to earning the title “NYC dog spa”, providing massages and hair shampoos, but most have an ulterior primary function, such as boarding and grooming, which ultimately serves the human first. I’m talking a dog spa for the dogs!
It would be a place where a canine could get every kind of doggie massage available, from the basic deep-tissue massage to one focused on achy joints or sore foot pads. Patrons could snack on all-natural treats as they lounge and have every other manner of beauty service, from combings for long-haired breeds to agility training for older dogs, provided.
Of course, while doggies may be the primary concern, human patrons would have to be catered to as well, and thus classes and instructional sessions could be offered in dog massage and health care, in addition to first aid and proper holistic lifestyles for dogs. Indeed, this NYC dog spa could serve as a bastion for comfort and good health in the doggie world in general, keeping folks informed and their doggies pampered in a city where both could use it.
Unfortunately, this ultimate NYC dog spa doesn’t exist yet, but it sure would be nice wouldn’t it?
